Kvadrat is proud to present House, a new site-specific sculpture by Swiss artist Roman Signer on the grounds of Kvadrat headquarters in Ebeltoft, Denmark. The permanent work, commissioned by Kvadrat, consists of a stylised house made of steel, with an inverted roof that creates a basin collecting rainwater inside the construction.

这栋长宽各约4米的建筑物外部被漆成红色，内部呈灰褐色，遵守将外墙漆成与屋顶和内部不同色彩的传统。位于房屋前面1根小管子用于排泄内部搜集雨水，宛如天然喷泉。

The building, of approximately 4 × 4 meters, is painted red on the outside and aluminium-grey on the inside, following the common practice of painting a house’s facade in a different colour from its roof and interiors. A small pipe placed on the house front expels the water that is being collected inside, acting like a natural fountain.

在其40多年的艺术实践中，RomanSinger 构成了自己独特的雕塑手法，模糊了表演与雕塑之间的界限，并使进程成为他雕塑实践的中心部份。就《House》而言，他将1个熟习的物体，比如1栋风格化的房子转变成为1件抛弃了其原有普通用处的矛盾事物，这正是 Signer 作品的主要特点之1。在他的作品中，熟习的平常物体通常与自然元素相结合，创造出意外的关系，改变二者状态。

In over four decades of artistic practice, Signer has defined his own very peculiar approach to s大型酒店服务员 工作服
culpture, often blurring the distinction between performance and sculpture and always taking process as a central part of his sculptural practice. The house is here the formal pretext to create the rainwater-collecting basin on its inside, shifting the main focus of the sculpture from its form to the process that sees the water moving from the inside to the outside.

Roman Signer解释说：“当看到这片土地的时候，我想到1栋红色小房屋矗立在那里。从远处看，房子好像已荒废了，屋顶倒塌，只剩下外墙。但是当逐步靠近窗户后，人们可以看到这栋房子是有屋顶的，但它是颠倒的。在下大雨的时候观看，必定是1幅美景：看着雨水聚集，然后从房子里流出来。但你1定要带雨伞，由于这栋房子不提供任何避雨的地方！”

As the artist explains: ‘When I saw this land I imagined a small red house standing there. From afar, the house looks like a ruin, with a collapsed roof and only the external walls left. But as one comes closer and looks through the window, one can see that there is a roof, only it is inverted on the inside. It must be beautiful to look at it when it rains heavily, following how the rainwater collects and flows out of it. But you got to have an umbrella. The house doesn’t give you any shelter!’

Roman Signer，1938年诞生于瑞士阿彭策尔，现定居圣加仑。他曾参加众多久负盛名的国际艺术展览，如卡塞尔的Documenta (1987)、Skulptur Projekte Münster (1997) 和上海双年展 (2012)。1999年，他代表瑞士参加了第4106届威尼斯双年展。在他的职业关于工作服问卷调查

Roman Signer (Appenzell, 1938, lives and works in St. Gallen) has participated in prestigious international art exhibitions such as Documenta in Kassel (1987), Sku蓝色国网电工工作服
